Buyoo Concert Bridges Culture and Identity in Upper East
The Buyoo Concert, a cultural music festival founded by renowned kologo player and performer BB Batongo, has emerged as a unifying force for culture, tradition, and identity in Ghana’s Upper East Region.
Held on January 30, 2025, at Balungo in the Bongo District, the event drew music lovers, traditional authorities, and cultural enthusiasts from across the region to celebrate indigenous sounds and shared heritage.
The concert featured electrifying performances from celebrated artistes such as Abeliwine Peter, Atanga Samuel, Akumolga, Wisdom Faya, S. Finy Boy, Emmanuel Akurigo, Payo Boy, Naaga Boys, and several other traditional performers. Their authentic rhythms, deeply rooted in northern Ghanaian culture, kept the audience engaged throughout the night.
BB Batongo explained that the Buyoo Concert was established to preserve indigenous music, foster unity among ethnic groups, and provide a platform for traditional artistes whose work reflects the identity and lived experiences of the people.
Patrons lauded the initiative, describing it as a powerful reminder of the region’s rich cultural diversity and the unifying role of music.
