DJ Manni condemns disrespect shown to Reggae legend Fantan Mojah at BhimConcert

Ghanaian DJ and music commentator DJ Manni has expressed deep disappointment over what he describes as blatant disrespect shown to Jamaican reggae legend Fantan Mojah during his performance at a recent Stonebwoy-hosted concert.

In a strongly worded social media post, DJ Manni criticised sections of the crowd, believed to be largely BHIM fans, for their reaction to Fantan Mojah’s performance.

According to him, some fans shouted “away, away” while the veteran reggae artiste was on stage, an act he described as unacceptable and dishonourable to a musician of Fantan Mojah’s stature.

“I’m seriously disappointed in how some BHIM fans dealt with a legend like Fantan Mojah. Very, very disrespectful,” DJ Manni wrote.

He noted that Fantan Mojah travelled all the way to Ghana to support Stonebwoy and deserved respect regardless of individual music preferences. DJ Manni stressed that not liking reggae music should never be an excuse to disrespect an artiste who has contributed immensely to the genre.

DJ Manni further revealed that a woman from the United Kingdom who was in the crowd was visibly upset by the treatment meted out to the reggae icon, highlighting how the incident reflected poorly on Ghana’s image as a welcoming destination for global music legends.

According to him, the disrespect became even more evident when Fantan Mojah addressed the audience, saying, “Ghana, I’ve heard y’all love reggae music,” only to be met with silence from the crowd.

Moments later, DJ Manni claimed, the atmosphere changed dramatically when a female artiste mounted the stage and began twerking, drawing loud cheers from the same audience.

Describing the situation as a sad reflection of moral decay among the youth, DJ Manni lamented what he sees as the declining commercial appeal of reggae music in Ghana, especially among the youth who are obsessed with obscenity.

“The youth of today are not interested in righteousness; slackness is the order of the day,” he stated, adding that discussions about reggae music losing its commercial value in Ghana are often dismissed unfairly.

DJ Manni concluded by calling on music lovers to show respect to artistes, regardless of genre, and to honour legends while they are still alive.
