Efya Pushes Back Against “Unfriendly” Label

Award-winning singer Efya has challenged long-standing public perceptions that she is unfriendly, insisting her confidence and firm boundaries are often misunderstood.

Appearing on TV3’s The Ladies Circle with Anita Akuffo, the celebrated vocalist explained that many people approach celebrities with a sense of entitlement, which often leads to misjudgments about her personality.

“People think I’m not a nice person; it’s because I’m much grounded, I guess,” she said.

Efya noted that some fans assume streaming her music gives them the right to speak to her in ways she finds unacceptable.

“It depends on the kind of energy you come to me with. Most people feel entitled when it comes to celebrities. Just because you stream my music doesn’t mean you can tell me things you know you’re not supposed to,” she stressed.

She also criticized social media platforms—particularly Twitter—for enabling disrespectful behaviour by giving people a false sense of boldness.

“Sometimes, people go off a little bit on Twitter and feel themselves, but it’s not fun and games till I show up in your house,” she warned.

Despite the assumptions, Efya insists she is one of the kindest people anyone could meet—until someone crosses the line.

“I’m actually the sweetest person. I just don’t like disrespect, so if you bring that on me, we will have a problem,” she said.

Efya urged the public to maintain respect both online and offline, adding:

“Everybody is allowed their mindset, but I choose to keep it respectful till you cross the line.”
