2026 budget: Government earmarks GH¢20m for new Creative Arts Fund
The government has allocated GH¢20 million to operationalize a new Creative Arts Fund, a major financing initiative announced in the 2026 national budget.
Presenting the budget to Parliament on Thursday, November 13, 2025, Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson said the fund is designed to become a driving force for growth across Ghana’s creative industries. He explained that it will support a wide range of disciplines including music, fashion, visual arts and culinary arts, along with the value chains that sustain these sectors.
Dr Forson said the decision reflects government’s commitment to reposition the arts as a central pillar of national development rather than a peripheral activity. “We are establishing a Creative Arts Fund that will drive opportunities in the arts, music, fashion, food and related creative sectors,” he said. “Our intention is to place culture at the core of job creation and national development.”
The move signals a renewed effort to create structured and reliable financial support for creative professionals.
Ahead of the 2024 elections, the National Democratic Congress outlined the Creative Arts Fund as a key part of its plan to provide long-term financing for both emerging and established creative businesses. The GH¢20 million allocation marks the first concrete step toward fulfilling that commitment.
