Crime rate is low in Ghana because of me — Shatta Wale brags
Ghanaian dancehall artiste, Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has taken credit for the country’s low crime rate.
The Shatta Movement boss claimed his influence has kept many young people away from crime.
In a social media post on Tuesday, May 27, the outspoken musician said he has made sacrifices that have positively impacted the youth, likening his efforts to those of the police in combating crime.
“If it wasn’t Shatta Wale, crime rate in Ghana go be gidigidi. We sacrificed with Godfathers that brought us up to put most of the youths out of crime,” he wrote.
“We don’t support crime. We combat and eradicate crime like the Police sameway,” the post added.
His comments come at a time Ghana has been ranked the second safest country in Africa by global tourism firm Altezza Travel.
The report, released in January 2025, cited Ghana’s low crime rate, stating it is even lower than that of Canada, Greece and Australia.
“In terms of the Global Peace Index, Ghana surpasses Moldova, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, China, and even Jamaica. In the Terrorism Index, it is among the countries with a zero score,” the report noted.
