Malaika Queen Takes To Modelling
Six years of the Miss Malaika beauty pageant has produced some of the most elegant and focused young women in Ghana today. One of these is Hamamat Montia, Miss Malaika 2006.
Hamamat's determination to make it as a world class model even before she became a Malaika queen, has landed her in the United States of America where she is vigorously pursuing the “American dream” in fulfillment of her Ghanaian hopes.
Two recent modelling contracts that Hamamat has executed were for Baby Phat and Konvict Wear.
The photo shoot which fills Hamamat's portfolio was shot by Atlanta-based celebrity/fashion photographer, Derek Blanks while her make up was done by top Florida celebrity make-up artist and hair stylist, Toni Jo Perruzi who has done work for celebrities like Snoop Dogg, Usher, TuPac and Ryan Seacrest of American Idol fame.
Hamamat's road to success as a model in the USA has come as a great source of inspiration for the 16 contestants of this year's Miss Malaika competition.
Every time Hamamat's image appears in a magazine, she becomes the beacon of hope for the many young Ghanaians who dream of making it internationally in whatever field of endeavor they have chosen.
Hamamat is currently in the US studying Public Relations and Communications at the Georgia Perimeter College and modelling part-time.
Meanwhile Miss Malaika, the search for a beauty of African origin, is gathering steam with the 16 beautiful delegates participating in some exciting activities.
The series air on GTV every Sunday at 2:30pm and on Wednesdays at 9:30pm.
