Christabel Grabs Miss Tertiary Crown
After weeks' preparations and a night of keen contest, Christabel Portuphy, a student of the University of Cape Coast last Friday beat 16 other beautiful ladies to annex the median edition of the Miss Tertiary Crown.
After proving that she has a remarkable acumen, inner beauty, good stage manners and articulacy at the final stage of the Miss Tertiary event held at the National Theater in Accra, she was given the coveted crown.
The best five were selected out of 17. The selected ones were asked to present their messages on Child Labour. Christabel scored more points with the level of intelligence she exhibited in answering her questions, something which endeared her to the hearts of the judges, who aptly declared her Miss Tertiary 2008.
Goldie Ameley Aphonso, a student of Accra Polytechnic, emerged the 1st runner-up while Beryl Adom, a student of Ghana Institute of Journalism, emerged the second runner-up.
As part of the prize packages, Christabel took home a laptop, a set of furniture, a wardrobe, one-year educational scholarship, one-year internship with the Ministry of Youth, Manpower and Development, Kasapa cellular phone with credit, souvenirs from Kasapa and $2,000.
Goldie also took home US$1,000 one-year educational scholarship, Kasapa phone with credit and other souvenirs from Kasapa while Beryl was given a washing machine, one-year educational scholarship, Kasapa phone with credit, as well as souvenirs.
Pearl Akua Agyeman, SRC President of University of Education, Winneba, also emerged the winner for the research project on child labour, which was given to all the SRC Presidents in the 17 Tertiary Institutions in the country. She took away US$1,000, a flat screen computer and a plaque.
Miss Talent went to Christabel Portuphy, Miss Personality also went to Gloria Kudgenu and Miss Eloquence went to Ugget Adgoa Kapuochieneh. They all received a bouquet of flowers.
The event attracted Ministers and some politicians. There were also exciting performances from the duo 4X4 and the Klala, a dance group of the Malta Gunnies Street Dance fame.
