Shatta Wale not focused on returning to TGMAs for now — Singer’s Manager
Reggae dancehall giant Shatta Wale has no current plans to return to Ghana's biggest music awards scheme, the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), according to his manager Sammy Flex.
Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy were indefinitely banned from the VGMAs in 2019 after a public brawl marred the 20th anniversary, leading to one of the artistes brandishing a gun.
Both were stripped of their awards from that night by the board were asked to return the plaques.
However, after two years, the TGMA board lifted the ban and reinstated the dancehall duo.
While Stonebwoy has since participated again, nominating and attending, Shatta Wale has maintained his self-imposed boycott.
In an interview with Accra-based TV3's New Day on May 17, Sammy Flex was asked if joining the VGMAs is part of Shatta Wale's objectives going forward.
“It is the process that would have to start and that process as I am saying has not started from our end," he said.
"Maybe its not on top priority on our table at the moment...I won’t say never but at the moment there’s nothing like that on the table. For now as I talk to Cookie right now, the objectives on our table, joining VGMA is not part of it as we speak,” he added.
