I’ve never used a songwriter in life — Rema talks about his music-making process
Divine Ikubor, professionally known as Rema has opined about the process he goes through in making music for his fans.
The ‘Calm Down’ crooner says he has always been writing all his songs alone without the services of a songwriter since he started.
Speaking in an interview, Rema stressed that most times he does almost everything by himself except for a producer who will give him a beat to match his creativity.
“Everything you heard [was] all written by me, I have never used a songwriter in my life. And that is what is all about.
“The only thing I could add is composing a song is just actual producer, you know my beats, but when it comes to creating, I do my things alone and mostly in the studio, I record most of my songs alone,” he said.
Rema, 23, rose to stardom after releasing the song "Dumebi" in 2019, and got signed to Jonzing World record owned by D'Prince who has an affiliation with Nigeria-based Mavin Records owned by music executive Don Jazzy.
He is best known internationally for his 2022 hit single "Calm Down", the remix with American singer Selena Gomez of which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and led the U.S. Afrobeats Songs for a record-setting 41 weeks.
