‘NAM1 is walking freely and misbehaving because those responsible for arresting him are corrupt’ — Kwame A Plus

Ghanaian entertainment and political commentator, Kwame A Plus has intensified calls for the immediate arrest of Nana Appiah Mensah, commonly known as NAM1, the former CEO of defunct Menzgold.

The demand comes in the wake of NAM1's recent controversial actions and his apparent impunity.

NAM1 faced a wave of public backlash when it was revealed that customers who were ensnared in the collapsed gold investment scheme, Menzgold, were required to pay a substantial fee of GH¢650 for verification purposes or risk losing their locked-up funds.

This directive caused an uproar, prompting swift condemnation from the affected individuals and financial experts alike.

The Menzgold verification fee policy was later revoked, offering a glimmer of hope for those who had already paid.

Kwame A Plus voiced his concerns during a discussion on UTV’s “United Showbiz” program on August 26, 2023.

He expressed surprise at the fact that NAM1 continued to walk free despite the harm inflicted on numerous investors.

“These things don’t happen only in Ghana, they occur in America on Wall Street, and they arrest the people.

“Why is it that someone who stole plantains or yams, because he was hungry, gets between 5 and 10 years in prison, but NAM1, who has stolen money from many people, is still free?" he stated.

However, he criticised the lack of concrete action by authorities.

He said, “Bank of Ghana issued a statement that anyone who does business with Nam1 does so at their own risk.

“It is like the Ghana Police issuing a statement that this particular area is dangerous so pass there at your own risk.

"They can't just issue that, they would have to go there and arrest the criminals. It is the duty of the authorities to protect the people from individuals like him."

He expressed concerns that government's inability to hold him accountable might embolden future perpetrators of Ponzi schemes, leading to more innocent people losing their hard-earned money.

He lamented, "NAM1 shouldn't be allowed to walk around and misbehave, but those supposed to catch him can't do that because they are also corrupt.

“They can't stop this guy, and that is how another Ponzi scheme will come and dupe people of their hard-earned money, and still nothing will be done," he stated.
