The consistent excellence mind–boggling microphone techniques, the ability to adapt to wide ranging conditions in the local music industry and the capacity to hold oneself together under the microscope of current intensive lyrics–beef trade, Akatanoma , born Mohammed Kabiru, seems to have been missing on the radar for sometime now, especial after the release of his maiden album SANBRA .
The young man who then was fast becoming the rap phenomenon, had shown us many facets throughout this enchanted long years. He has gilded basic qualities and turned them into wonderful lyrics and rhythm. This is evident in songs like Osobrokyere remix, Sanbra and Hasada rendered in Hausa vein. The Moslem born musician seems to have been eliminated to the background after the release of this great album.
My little investigation shows that he has taken into sound engineering at the former JQ's studio Richcity even that was sometime ago, so where is Akasanoma who wanted to become a pilot but was hooked up into music by the exploits of his role models Michael Jackson and Jay Dee. I don't want to believe the young man has come to the end of his career, any information on him should be sent to my mail for onwards transmission to Konkonsa-Ba.
TIT BITS
…OF MUSICIANS AND EVENT ORGANISERS
The New Year is here again and will not stop coming to us and Weekly Fylla will like to extend the warmest of the season's greetings, wishes and resolution to our numerous patrons and our partners in the industry and our musicians and Event Organizers. I mention the two bodies because of their identical role they play in the music industry. I said this because of the way they have been on each others throat with accusations and counter accusations. Musicians “cocoa season” is during festive occasions which comes with engagements but at the same time creates unnecessary troubles for Artists who accept payments for engagements they do not honor whiles
Organizers almost elope with Artist balances. This allegation of duping by both sides and protracted feuds they engender during this period bring to the fore how information and communication are managed in this country. While the artist thinks they are Stars, the organizers also have another opinion without taken into consideration the business aspect of their dealings. Also most of the organizers prefer to deal with some of the artist direct and use their names without their knowledge but when there is problem, it is then that they look for a scapegoat.
If we want some of these trivial issues to be a thing of the past then organizers should resist the temptation of using the names of musicians they have not contracted in their advertisements and make sure they deal with the right people to avoid some of these embarrassments for a fruitful year. Musicians must also be up and doing and engage good managers to deal on their behalf to curtail some of these brouhahas.
HIPLIFE IS THE WINNER
One of the frequents criticism of Hiplife music, the Highlife fused with Western rhythm, hybrid of music that came to salvage the local music scene in the last decade is their inability to play live band and connoisseurs believe that is due to this deficiency the genre has no future but I believe those who had the opportunity to watch some of these Hiplifers performing during the yuletide will start to revise their notes.
It is open secret that the reason for this apathy is the fact that the cost involved of hiring live band and the fact that some of the organizer are not willing to pay the required fees to entice them into it. But thank God things are beginning to twist in their favor thanks to current development in the industry with promoters insisting on live performances and are ready to pay. During the United for Peace Concert- the Reunion of Daddy Lumba and Nana Acheampong, MOGO and Decemba 2 Rememba all the Hiplifers who appeared on the bill did not only played live but they excelled. Talk of Atwi Ne Antwi, Castro, Mzbel, Wutah, Okyeame and brodas, Tic Tac, Praye, VIP, Nana Quame, Samini, Becca and the rest.
Back-to-back hometown hits by these Hiplifers drew a big crowd response with the ladies in the house enjoying the night. What they need now is encouragement and it is my hope and that of the general public that the Live Band trend continues so that we can enjoy them. Hiplife is the winner.
KONKONSA-BA wants to know…
WHY IS TV3 DOING THIS?
I don't know but I think the management of the nation number one entertainment Television station TV3, has not been fair to its clients whose videos clips they show on their network. It is interesting, folks to note that these clips are not shown to the fullest but what is happening nowadays is a serious and dangerous practice. Within a matter of say 30 minutes, TV3 will drop about 15 Videos on average time of 2 minutes per clip. By so doing the viewer is deprived the opportunity to enjoy the musicals and also taking away the excitement. “Things are happening”.
I don't know whether my noble readers have observed that phenomenon of late. Producers have paid money for their music to be promoted but the way things are done leaved much to be desired. It is frustrating as it is demoralizing to be handed such a raw deal. I think whoever is responsible for this unprofessional under-dealing must bow down their heads in shame. Management must sit up to rectify this anomaly before “faya born dem”. If it is a matter of too many bookings for a limited air time, even that who cause am?
“ETRI MU DE” IS KILLING SAMINI BATMAN?
Well folks, the latest konkonsa in town is about the dancehall and don dada mega blaster Emmanuel Samini formerly Batman, obviously one of the biggest and finest artist this millennium has produced. The brother is sweet and loved by everybody who comes into contact with him for the first time. In fact he has carved a niche for himself as a master shaker whenever he is on stage. I have known my big brother since the days of Pop corn group when he and Kokovellie were sharing the stage together, and I remembered vividly during “Top Radio's mother of all carnivals” when they thrilled the crowd with their music prowess.
Together KK Fosu, Kokovellie and Bateo or Batman (that was his claim to fame then) they formed the group, Trinity, until he went solo and won many awards. But of late his fortunes seem to be dwindling. It may sound generic bitter yet that is the hard truth. As for me Konkonsa-Ba I am not a bit surprised. I for saw this coming since the days of CAF Awards Night at the Conference Center. That night his output was nothing to write home about but some sycophants around him applauded him thinking that they are doing him a favor but when he put up that lackluster performance during the Decemba2Rememba Show, some of us were not amazed at all.
To me I think there are too many slobs around him whose interest is what they will derive from him but not what they will do to see his progress. My brother wake up and live, nama wo ho ndaho, because fame and popularity doesn't exist always.
On this note let me take the opportunity to extend my condolences to my big brother SIDNEY the Hiplife Ninja of the saddened death of his mother a week before Christmas. I share the moment of grief with you and I hope that the Good Lord Himself will console you and your sister, alert us of the burial and we shall all be there. We are about to land and thank you for choosing WFET-105 flight until next week its cheers!
