SA music industry mourns the death of Lucky Dube
The South African music industry is in shock after the murder of top reggae artist Lucky Dube. The 43-year-old award-winning artist was gunned down during an attempted hijacking in Rosettenville, south of Johannesburg, last night. Police say Dube was killed by three men in the presence of his teenaged son and daughter.
No arrests have been made. People's poet and musician Mzwakhe Mbuli says he is at a loss for words. Jazz vocalist Ringo Madlingozi says he is always looked up to Dube.
Madlingozi says Dube's murder has left a huge hole in his heart. The record company of reggae star says his music was loved all over the world.
Dube died at the scene. His music career spanned more than 25 years. Gallo spokesperson Arnold Mabunda says Dube was arguably South Africa's most successful musician of his time.
