'Music Is Not Where You Come From' Says L.I.B. Queen
She's not a only singer, she's a diva, who is gradually making it big on the Ghanaian music industry. She has mingled her talent (singing)and culture, which makes all her appearances a legendary one, both in Ghana, Liberia and outside.
Armed with music from many genres like soukous, zouk, salsa, hiphop mixed with African beats, her new album titled 'A New Day' , has danceable songs, sung in English and French.
She adopted the name of L.I.B. Queen not only because she is a Liberian but to signify that she is an African.
'Nicola' (co-written by L.I.B. Queen and Colonel Faat) is definitely one of my favorite tracks but there are other songs like 'A New Day', 'Sweet Thing', 'Sofiya' featuring David, 'Let's Stop fighting & Reunite', 'Sweet Afrika', 'Stop fooling', 'Lovin Lady' featuring Jerry J, 'Asambre' (Together) featuring Jerry J and 'Bono', a traditional African song.
During one of her performances, a golden chance fell on her and she met Fatu Glifford who invited her to play with his band called Balawala International Group in Ivory Coast.
One advice I took from Nancy a.k.a. L.I.B. Queen (I prefer to call her Nancy) as I conducted the interview is that "Music is not where you come from, it does not matter the country you come from but what your music can do".
Because she has played with Ambassador Julie Endee, Nimba Barr, Princess Margaret, Florence Jogble, and Fatu Glifford and local artistes like Amandzeba Nat Brew, Rocky Dawuni, Rex Omar and Group Afrikan, she has no problem introducing herself on stage.
Promotion has taken off in Takoradi, Koforidua, Bolgatanga and Accra, so other areas should be on the look out.
Ghanaian music is well known in Liberia so she is convinced her album will be well received by Ghanaians. For now she wants Ghanaians to embrace the album by buying copies of it or calling + 233 24 427 8689.
We asked her how their music industry was after the war and this is what she has to say, "Its been 14 years of conflict, some of the musicians traveled, now a lot of them are coming back and releasing albums.
She also said something nice about live band music in Ghana: "Most of the drinking spots have live bands available which is a good start".
Her newfound executive producer, Uncle Danny of Hush Hush Studios added that she is a versatile artiste.
L.I.B. Queen is not just a regular artist doing regular music. Her live outstanding performances and popularity is gradually making her one of the most wanted female artistes on the African continent and Europe.
