Miss Akwa Ibom Becomes Ambassador And Face Of Environment
Miss Akwa Ibom 2012/13, Andino Attah, has proved to the world that she merits the adorable crown she is wearing. This was again confirmed by the outcome of Mary-Elika foundation sponsored Nigeria Model Green States Award and Ms. Green and Beautiful Pageant where she emerged Ambassador, and Face of Environment for South-South Nigeria.
Public Speaker and Environmental activist DR (MRS) MARY EMIENE MANZO CEO of Mary-Elika Foundation came up with the pageant geared towards creating better awareness for environmental issues.
Mary-Elika Foundation which is an environmental foundation with the aim to save mother earth organised the Nigeria Model Green States Award and Ms. Green and Beautiful Pageant, tagged: Ambassador and Face of the Environment, organised in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Environment and also endorsed by the office of the Senate President, this was much more than a beauty pageant, but also a brain contest.
The main pageant was held on April 30th in Abuja with Ministers, Senators, Governors,Ambassadors and Commissioners of environment from various states in attendance. It was huge. During camp contestants were occupied with lots of researches and paper presentations on state, national and global environmental challenges and what the leaders are doing to combat them respectively.
All areas of environmental issues were touched, examples: Waste management, global warming, deforestation/forestation, 3R principle of waste management, climate change, ozone layer depletion, glaciations, industrialization in respect to climate change, carbon/oxygen cycle, types, causes and effects of air, water, land and noise pollution, to mention a few.
On return to Akwa Ibom, Miss Andino Attah, sorry, now Ambassador Andino Attah took time out to share her experience and knowledge of her newly found passion, 'It was a really wide project and it wasn't the usual fun thingy. We all studied a lot and had little fun time. They were looking for an ambassador and not just a queen. At the end of the exercise, two ambassadors were chosen, Miss F.C.T for the north and me for the south.
(This was actually pretty cool because my Pet Project as Miss Akwa Ibom is 'The Green Akwa Ibom Project' tagged 'Clean and Green Akwa Ibom' and was pleased to see the same stuff on your new Facebook page) 'during my paper presentation on the environmental challenges faced by Akwa Ibom under the state category, I did extremely well, in fact, I am now so very much more aware of my environment than before. I spoke on gully erosions, air pollution, waste management, bush burning and the rest. I even went ahead to praise the Governor and his efforts in combating them.
I mentioned the permanent dump site, pipe-jacking technology to prevent flooding, Julius Berger erosion control project, provision of state of the art waste disposal trucks, green brigade and the rest. Trust me, when I was done, I had a deafening applause, she concluded.
