Ghana Music Awards: Sarkodie Tops With 12 Nominations

The organizers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, Charterhouse, on Wednesday announced the nominees for this year's music awards at a short ceremony at the studios of GH One Entertainment Television in Accra.

The ceremony was attended by a cross-section of the entertainment media and a number of stakeholders in the music industry.

One of Ghana's fast rappers, Sarkodie, who led the nominees, list bagged a total of 12 nominations including 3 in the Best Collaboration of the Year category for 'Sweetio' with Raquel, 'U Go Kill Me' featuring EL and 'I'm in Love With You' featuring Efya; Songwriter of the Year, Artist of the Year, Most Popular Song of the Year and Album of the Year.

2011 was largely a good year for the rapper but he will face some stiff competition from Okyeame Kwame with 9 nominations, 7 for 4×4, 6 for Stay J and 5 for Dr Cryme. Other artists with multiple nominations include Kwaw Kesse, Trigmatic, Efya, Raquel, Becca and others.

This year's Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) ceremony, slated for April 14 at the Accra International Conference Centre, will reward deserving artistes for their hard work, dedication and contribution to the music industry.

The package for this year's awards includes GH¢ 2,000 for each winner, and GH¢ 10,000 for the Artiste of the Year. The winner of the World Bank Sponsored Music for Development category will also take home a cash prize of GH¢ 5,000.
