Samini Wins IRAWMA 'Best African Performer' Award

Ghana's afro-reggae singer, Emmanuel Andrew Samini popularly known as Batman Samini has added this year's International Reggae & World Music Awards (IRAWMA) 'Best African Entertainer' award to his awards list. The star-studded yearly event took place on May 2, 2010 in the York College Performing Arts Center in Queens, New York.

Established in 1982 by Martin's International and Associates, the mission of the IRAWMA is to acknowledge and honor reggae and world music artists including songwriters, performers, promoters and musicians. The impetus behind the International Reggae & World Music Awards is its commitment to promoting greater participation and acceptance of Reggae, Caribbean and World Music internationally.

The 2009 MTV’s Best African Performer was nominated in the Best African Entertainer category in this year's edition of the IRWMA. Batman Samini contested with 2Face Idibia (Nigeria), D'banj (Nigeria), Amadou and Mariam (Mali) and Femi Kuti (Nigeria).

In addition to the numerous awards won at the Ghana Music Awards, Samini has also grabbed international awards like; The Best African Act (2006 MOBO Awards), Best Performer (2009 MTV Africa Music Awards) and several others.

Most notable at the IRAWMA was the top nominee Queen Ifrica who won  four awards. Multi-platinum recording artist Wyclef Jean and civil rights activist Rev Al Sharpton received the Marcus Garvey Humanitarian Award.

The 29th Annual International Reggae and World Music Awards was dedicated to 'Health Awareness' and 'people of Haiti'. Stars like Julian Marley, Gramps Morgan, Awilo Longomba, Tarrus Riley and New Kingston Band 'mashed up' the stage. While Alison Hinds, Queen Ifrica, Barbee and Winsome Benjamin commanded the stage with feminine swagger and grace.

My Turn…
Well, i was more than happy when the organizers sent me the press release, after knowing that our polygamous musician has won the award. Big congratulations from Ghanacelebrities.com to Samini. He is really setting good examples in terms of his music career. Hope u are doing well with ur wives and children too. But homeboy must also acknowledge his fans as the awards keep coming ooh.  Not only the votes from his BIG family (I really mean the BIG-nuclear family) that helped him to win this award, mine is part as well. Congrats!

As Usual you heard it here first. We are the first online tabloid in Ghana to report this.
