US officials ‘lied routinely’ to public on Afghan war – inspector

America's top official responsible for Afghanistan's reconstruction said the public had been given exaggerated reports on successes in the country. His Congressional testimony comes after the The Washington Post released the so-called 'Afghan Papers' in December. These detail years of deliberate disinformation about the war.
