New Zealand volcano deaths rise, plan to retrieve bodies set

The death toll from a New Zealand volcano eruption rose to eight on Thursday, with two victims dying in hospital, and will continue to climb with eight victims presumed dead on the island and more than 20 in intensive care with severe burns. The news comes as the director of the country's Civil Defence Emergency Management said a plan was being finalised to recover bodies on Friday morning. The volcano on Whakaari, also known as White Island, was "highly volatile" and could erupt again within days preventing recovery teams retrieving bodies, said authorities.
