Trump hits Turkey with sanctions, calls for ceasefire

US President Donald Trump has approved a series of economic sanctions on Turkey. That is a reversal of his earlier decision to allow Ankara to start an operation in northeast Syria against the Kurds. He's now calling for an immediate ceasefire in northern Syria, after bipartisan legislators in Congress said it was a betrayal of the United States's allies, the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces.
