Sudan families flee Kordofan violence, fear what awaits at home
Thousands of people are fleeing violence in Sudan's Kordofan region, where the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces are battling for control of a strategic supply route. More than 5,000 families arrived in El Obeid, capital of North Kordofan, in a single week. As the army retakes some towns from the RSF, some are hopeful they could go home, while others fear what they'll find.
With millions already struggling to find enough food and poor rainfall threatening the harvest, the wait to return home is likely to grow harder.
