China’s humanoid robot games showcase rapid progress in robotics

China's humanoid robot games in Beijing are testing the abilities of machines while showcasing the progress of the country's robotics industry.

Robots compete in events including sprinting, boxing and football, with some demonstrating impressive capabilities while others struggle to stay upright or run into obstacles.

Organisers say the event is designed to highlight advances in robotics and their growing role in China's economy. But despite the progress, the machines still rely on human handlers and are some way from becoming fully autonomous. Al Jazeera's Ferdia Carr reports.
