Trump eyes new outreach to Kim Jong Un as Iran pressure stalls

The US president appears to be rethinking his approach to the adversaries he has struggled with most. After months of strikes failed to move Iran's leadership, Trump is turning his attention back to North Korea, raising questions about whether he is shifting from force toward dealmaking, and even entertaining giving up on the goal of full North Korean disarmament.

Al Jazeera's Richard Gaisford notes it seems unlikely Trump can now deliver the peace deal that eluded him before, but any renewed talks would shift focus away from the Middle East, where the aircraft carrier USS George Washington has just left Vietnam for the region, cutting naval coverage for South Korea and its neighbours for more than a year.
