Major mudslide in Chile displaces residents

Cleanup and relief operations are ongoing in Tocopilla, Chile, after flooding and mudslides affected 60 percent of homes and displaced more than 1,000 residents to shelters in the arid Antofagasta region.

Military personnel and volunteers have been clearing mud and debris.

Intense desert rains triggered the mudslides, which activated dry ravines and caused flooding.

Local authorities have reported no deaths or injuries.
