Ghana Cuts Debt Service Burden From 55% to Below 20%

Ghana has significantly reduced the share of government revenue used to service debt, with the figure falling from about 55% to below 20%.

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson says the improvement follows ongoing debt restructuring efforts, including an agreement with Belgium to restructure €163 million owed to the country's export credit agency.

The reduction in debt-service costs is expected to create more fiscal space for government to invest in public services and infrastructure.
