GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi Rejects Claims Of $1.7bn IMF-Attributed Loss

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has rejected claims that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) directly attributed some $1.7 billion in losses to GoldBod.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, Mr Gyamfi challenged commentators and fact-checkers to examine the relevant IMF documents rather than attributing statements to the Fund that he says are not contained in its reports.

His comments come amid growing debate over losses associated with Ghana's gold trading operations and the Bank of Ghana's Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.

Mr Gyamfi maintains that the IMF's reports should be read carefully and that claims about GoldBod's role in the reported losses must be supported by what the Fund actually stated.
