Afenyo-Markin Challenges Sammy Gyamfi To Account For US$1.7bn DGPP Loss

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has challenged Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) CEO Sammy Gyamfi to account for the reported US$1.7 billion, approximately GH¢22 billion, loss recorded under the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme (DGPP) in 2025.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, in response to Mr Gyamfi's comments at the Government Accountability Series, Mr Afenyo-Markin said the GoldBod CEO had not disputed the IMF's finding that the programme recorded the loss.
The Minority Leader argued that the central issue is not which state institution carried the loss on its balance sheet, but that the funds involved were public resources and therefore require accountability.
Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament is pushing for the establishment of an ad hoc committee to investigate the operations of the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme and the circumstances surrounding the reported US$1.7 billion loss recorded by the Bank of Ghana in 2025.
