Aboboyaa Operators Face Sanctions Over New AMA Safety Directives

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has ordered all operators of tricycles, popularly known as “Aboboyaa,” to install reflector stickers on their vehicles by the end of August 2026.
The Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, says operators must also wear reflective clothing and are prohibited from riding in the inner lanes.
The directives follow complaints about indiscipline among tricycle operators in Accra. The AMA says sanctions will be imposed on operators who fail to comply.
