GoldBod vs Bank of Ghana: Who is responsible for the GH¢22 Billion Loss? | Matters Arising
The reported GH¢22 billion loss linked to Ghana's Domestic Gold Purchase Programme has triggered a fresh accountability debate over the roles of GoldBod and the Bank of Ghana. The IMF says the programme recorded losses of about GH¢22 billion in 2025, with the costs reflected on the Bank of Ghana's balance sheet.
But GoldBod's audited accounts reportedly show a GH¢5.44 billion surplus, while its defenders argue that GoldBod did not itself record the GH¢22 billion loss. The Minority, however, insists GoldBod cannot distance itself from the losses because of its role in the gold purchasing, assaying, valuation and export process, and is demanding greater disclosure of the transactions involved.
