Top Story: Minority Accuses BoG of Insolvency, Blames GoldBod for Central Bank Crisis

The Minority in Parliament is accusing the Bank of Ghana (BoG) of being technically insolvent, blaming the operations of GoldBod for worsening the Central Bank's balance sheet.

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin claims GoldBod is bleeding money while using accounting practices to present losses as profits. The allegations come amid an increasingly heated public exchange between Afenyo-Markin and GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi, who has dismissed the Minority Leader's claims as a product of his “hallucinatory imagination.”

The Minority says GoldBod's operations have contributed to the Bank of Ghana being pushed to the brink of insolvency. But is the Central Bank truly insolvent? Our JoyNews Research team examines the BoG's profitability, equity position and the role GoldBod plays in the controversy.

Tonight on Top Story, we bring you the full-blown showdown over Ghana's gold sector, GoldBod's finances and the health of the Bank of Ghana.

We hear from Parliament, economists and our research team as we interrogate the competing claims.
