Ghana's shift towards gas-driven power generation has helped reduce the country's dependence on imported liquid fuels, generating annual savings of about $500 million, according to Energy and Green Transition Minister Dr John Jinapor.
Speaking at the launch of the Petroleum Commission's 15th anniversary celebrations, Dr Jinapor said increased domestic gas production, supported by collaboration with industry partners, has significantly reduced the country's crude oil import requirements.
He said the transition to gas-fired power generation is helping Ghana lower fuel import costs while strengthening the use of domestic energy resources to meet the country's electricity needs.
The development forms part of Ghana's broader efforts to improve energy security, reduce reliance on imported fuels and maximise the value of its domestic gas resources.
