Nigeria's National Sports Commission has cancelled the Nigeria Football Federation's planned electoral congress, which was scheduled for September 27 in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
The decision is a major setback for the Ibrahim Gusau-led NFF administration, which had been preparing for the elections and a possible second term.
The National Sports Commission is reportedly considering a three-month normalisation committee to oversee Nigerian football and prepare the ground for fresh elections.
The move comes amid growing pressure on the NFF following Nigeria's failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the Super Falcons' failure to secure a place at the 2027 Women's World Cup.
