Tommy John, MLB pitcher whose name became synonymous with elbow surgery, dies at 83

Tommy John, the former MLB pitcher who became the first player to successfully return after a groundbreaking elbow surgery that was later named after him, has died at 83. He died on Saturday night at his home in Bradenton, Florida, his agent said Sunday. He had been in hospice care. John was a four-time All-Star with a record of 288-231 and a 3.34 ERA during a career that stretched from 1963 to 1989. He pitched for the Cleveland Guardians, the Chicago White Sox, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the New York Yankees, the California Angels and the Oakland Athletics.
