European aircraft join battle as Belgium's record wildfire spreads | DW News

As Belgium struggles to contain its largest wildfire on record, European partners are sending aircraft and helicopters under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. The High Fens fire has burned roughly 3,000 hectares and pushed toward the German border, prompting evacuations and smoke alerts on both sides. Fire crews say difficult terrain is limiting ground operations and forcing a heavy reliance on aerial support.
