The government's 24-hour economy policy is facing scrutiny as analysts debate the proposed development of 24-hour economy markets and whether the infrastructure and demand needed to sustain the policy are in place.
Editor of the NewsCenta Newspaper, Elvis Darko, questions whether the proposed markets reflect the original concept of the 24-hour economy presented during the campaign.
He is also calling for data and evidence to demonstrate that institutions expected to operate around the clock, including the Passport Office and DVLA, are effectively providing services 24 hours a day.
On the proposed market projects, Darko says traders are not necessarily opposed to redevelopment but want clarity on how they will earn a living if existing markets are demolished before replacement facilities are completed.
NDC National Communications Team member Abdulai Sakra Alhassan defends the initiative, arguing that Ghana's 24-hour economy can work if properly implemented.
Resident Country Director of International Investments LLC, Ibrahim Adjei, remains sceptical, arguing that the policy requires greater investment and infrastructure to succeed.
