“Break WAEC’s Monopoly!” Private Schools Demand Major Assessment Reform
#BECE2026 #WAEC #GhanaEducation #BECE #EducationGhana #GhanaNews #ChannelOneTV #CitiFM Private school associations in Ghana are challenging aspects of the 2026 BECE assessment and marking process, raising concerns over alleged unfair grading, the use of standardised statistical methods and limited transparency from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
The Ghana National Council for Private Schools is calling for an independent review of BECE scripts and the marking process, greater accountability from WAEC and reforms to Ghana's assessment system.
The association is also advocating for the introduction of a second assessment body to create competition and strengthen quality assurance in student assessment.
