The Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) is set to launch phase two of its nationwide strike, escalating its industrial action over concerns about salary disparities, recognition and conditions of service.
GAUA General Secretary Charles Edu says the association represents professionals across Ghana's public universities, including lawyers, medical doctors, engineers, surveyors, chartered accountants, administrators and registrars.
He says the association is demanding fairness, equity and recognition, particularly over disparities between teaching and non-teaching senior members under the single spine salary structure.
According to GAUA, concerns over the current salary structure date back several years, with previous engagements and assurances yet to produce the desired results.
The association also says proposed changes to salary levels for some university professionals could further disadvantage its members.
As phase two of the strike begins, GAUA says some university examinations have already been affected, while it has raised concerns about procedures surrounding examinations at some institutions.
The Education Minister is expected to meet GAUA during the week. Charles Edu says the association will be looking for clear and tangible results before considering calling off the strike.
