Stakeholders have gathered in Damongo in the Savannah Region for a three-day conference aimed at finding lasting solutions to conflict and insecurity in northern Ghana.
The conference, organised by the Centre for Conflict Transformation and Peace Studies, focused on strengthening community-led peacebuilding, conflict prevention and collaboration among traditional authorities, religious leaders and security agencies.
Northern Ghana continues to face challenges linked to land disputes, chieftaincy conflicts and communal tensions, which have contributed to loss of lives, destruction of property, displacement and disruptions to livelihoods and development.
In the Savannah Region, insecurity has also affected communities along Ghana's borders with Burkina Faso and Côte d'Ivoire, with some residents displaced by security concerns.
The keynote speaker called on government to consider alternative approaches to peacebuilding, with greater emphasis on empowering communities to prevent and resolve conflicts.
