Can Japan call for peace without confronting its wartime past?

August 15 marks the 81st anniversary of Japan's unconditional surrender in World War II. As Japan commemorates the end of the war, questions remain about how the country confronts its wartime past. Critics say the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum is downplaying Japan's history of aggression and colonial rule in Asia. "First, Japan must reflect on its past, apologize and provide proof that it will never repeat those mistakes," said Tatsuo Sekiguchi, head of a Nagasaki civic group.
