New historical materials reveal brutal killings of Nanjing Massacre
"For the next 12 consecutive days, we had to kill two to three thousand defeated soldiers each day by stabbing, beheading, or shooting. The corpses piled up like mountains along the banks of the Yangtze River, and the scene was beyond description." These words appear in a news collection published by two Japanese news agencies in 1939, offering a firsthand account of the mass killings of defeated soldiers during the Nanjing Massacre, one of the most brutal episodes of WWII.
The collection was donated alongside letters, postcards and French diplomatic documents documenting Japan's atrocities in Nanjing. The materials were gathered by young people from both China and abroad and donated to the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders.
