AI can design viruses — but can we control it?

AI can now design viruses that never existed in nature.

Researchers used AI to create 16 functional bacteriophages — viruses that target bacteria — opening the door to potential new treatments for antibiotic-resistant infections.

But Dr. Peter Chin-Hong says there's another issue: AI's capabilities may be advancing faster than the rules designed to keep them safe.
