Awutu Senya East Chiefs Boycott 24-Hour Market Ceremony Over Land Dispute

Traditional leaders in the Awutu Senya East Municipality have boycotted a planned sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a 24-hour economy market.
The traditional leaders say the decision was prompted by what they describe as a disregard for their authority.
They have accused Municipal Chief Executive Seth Sabah Serwonoo-Banini and Member of Parliament Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor of allowing lands previously reserved for public use to be used for private interests.
Boundary Chief of the Awutu Traditional Council, Nai Kwabena Atopi, also raised concerns over the construction of permanent stalls by a private developer near the Kasoa Interchange following the eviction of hundreds of traders.
