Solar eclipse sweeps western Europe as millions gaze skywards

Millions of people across western Europe gathered to watch a rare solar eclipse, with the Moon completely obscuring the Sun for several minutes along the path of totality. Northern Spain offered some of the best views, as crowds watched the sky fall into darkness and reacted with cheers. In London, which was outside the path of totality, about 90 percent of the Sun was obscured. Hundreds gathered on Primrose Hill to watch the eclipse and take part in the festivities despite not experiencing totality. In Iceland, cloudy and rainy weather disrupted viewing for some spectators hoping for a clearer spectacle. The eclipse highlighted how, despite being predictable to the second, the phenomenon continues to captivate people around the world.
