Sam George: Fintech Innovation Must Not Come at Ghanaians’ Expense

Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation Samuel Nartey George has stressed the need to balance fintech innovation with the safety and protection of Ghanaians.

Speaking at the launch of the MoMo Fintech Lab in Accra, the Minister said consumer trust must remain central to the development of Ghana's fintech ecosystem, particularly because the sector handles people's money.

The MoMo Fintech Lab brings together players including startups, academia, investors, regulators and financial institutions to support the development of the next generation of Ghanaian fintech solutions.

Sam George said Ghana has the talent and ideas to build globally competitive fintech companies, but cautioned that innovation must go hand in hand with cybersecurity, data privacy, consumer protection and regulatory compliance.
