Aboabo Bank Demolition: Sekyedumase Bank CEO Breaks Silence

The Chief Executive Officer of Sekyedumase Community Bank PLC, Afiriyie Michael Kwabena, has spoken after the bank's Aboabo branch was demolished as part of plans to redevelop the area into a 24-hour economy market.
Management of the bank is locked in a legal dispute with the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly, accusing the Assembly and the project contractor of proceeding with the demolition despite a pending court injunction.
The bank says its relocation process had not been completed before the demolition and is assessing the potential financial and legal implications.
The CEO said the bank is currently operating from a makeshift structure while regulatory authorities assess a new facility secured by management.
He also said the bank is taking inventory of its assets following the demolition and dismissed claims that some funds had gone missing from the branch.
Counsel for the bank, Dr. Dickson Osei Assibey, described the Assembly's actions as unfair and said the bank will await the court's determination when the case resumes in October.
The Assembly, meanwhile, says it engaged the bank throughout the redevelopment process and issued notices requiring it to vacate the site. The Assembly says it will address the media on the matter at an appropriate date.
