Gov’t Defends Adamus Mining Lease Revocation, Cites Regulatory Breaches

The government has defended its decision to uphold the revocation of Adamus Resources Limited's mining leases, citing alleged mining outside approved areas, regulatory breaches and outstanding financial obligations.
The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources says the decision followed findings by the Minerals Commission that Adamus Resources had breached Ghana's mining laws and regulatory requirements during its operations.
The development follows Adamus Resources' rejection of the government's decision. The company has described the revocation as unlawful and accused Lands and Natural Resources Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah of disregarding procedures prescribed by law.
The Ministry, however, maintains that the government's action was based on “compliance, legality and protection of the public interest.”
It has also rejected suggestions that the revocation was intended to facilitate the transfer of Adamus Resources' assets to a preferred investor.
