Gov’t Missed First-Half Spending Target by GH¢35.6bn – IFS

The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) is calling on government to improve budget execution in the second half of 2026 by ensuring that spending and financing decisions align with the approved budget.
The IFS says government's first-half expenditure fell short of its target by GH¢35.6 billion.
Government had planned to spend GH¢172.54 billion during the period, but actual expenditure was significantly lower.
Speaking at a briefing on the 2026 mid-year budget review, Acting Executive Director of the IFS, Dr. Said Boakye, urged government to align its financing decisions with the approved budget plan.
