Overloaded Lake Kariba Ferry Capsizes, Dozens Dead and Missing

On Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe, a ferry approved to carry 90 passengers and five crew members capsized, killing at least 44 people. Official ticket records show 114 adult passengers were on board, and an unknown number of children below ticketing age may be missing. Rural communities rely on the five-hour lake journey to reach Kariba town. In Harare, residents question why such an old boat was still in service and demand new, safer vessels.
