Gov’t Plans to Make GAFET a Permanent Statutory Institution

Government is planning to make the Ghana Agricultural Fund for Education and Transformation (GAFET) a permanent statutory institution to provide sustained funding for agricultural education and skills development.

Minister of Food and Agriculture Eric Opoku says the move will ensure GAFET goes beyond being a short-term intervention and becomes a long-term source of support for Ghana's agricultural sector.

Speaking at the launch of GAFET, Mr Opoku said the institutionalisation process will require stakeholder consultations, a policy and legal framework, Cabinet consideration and Parliamentary approval.

The government believes a permanent GAFET will help strengthen agricultural education, develop skills and support the transformation of Ghana's agricultural sector over the long term.
