GPRTU Orders Drivers to Revert Unapproved Transport Fare Increases

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has directed commercial drivers who have increased transport fares without approval to immediately revert to the old charges.

The directive follows complaints from passengers that some drivers have started charging higher fares despite the absence of an approved increase.

Speaking to Channel One News, Deputy PRO of the GPRTU, Samuel Amoah, said the intended fare increase remains suspended until the end of August, following the Union's last meeting with the Transport Ministry.

The GPRTU says drivers are therefore expected to continue charging the existing fares until a new adjustment is officially approved.
