The reported $1.7 billion losses under Ghana's Domestic Gold Purchase Programme have triggered calls for greater transparency and an independent inquiry.
NPP Communications Team member Eric Twum is backing calls for an independent investigation, arguing that Ghanaians deserve to know how the funds were used, the costs and losses associated with the programme, and the broader economic impact.
He questioned why citizens should not have access to clear information on what went into the reported $1.7 billion, insisting that greater disclosure is necessary to help the public understand the programme and its economic trade-offs.
Eric Twum also invoked the principle of accountability, saying those calling for equity must also be prepared to subject their own actions to scrutiny.
The comments come amid growing debate over the management, costs and outcomes of the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.
